Gasparilla Art Festival & Outward Bound Voyage

For half a century, artists and art lovers from all parts of the country migrated annually to the Raymond James Gasparilla Festival of the Arts, where the country’s most accomplished artists and rising stars vie for the $15,000 Raymond James Best of Show Award and an additional $72,000 in prize money. The March 2023 Festival will showcase artists and their work to include ceramic, digital, drawing, fiber, glass, jewelry, mixed media, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, watercolor and wood. This event will also feature the works of local young artists and a weekend full of live entertainment.
To top our day off we’ll help Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla celebrate their conquest of Tampa with a festive celebration that will include live music and merriment, as Tampa’s favorite pirates make ready to leave the city from Sparkman Wharf!

The home of the circus king and his wife, a couple from humble mid-western origins, Ca’ d’Zan stands as a testament to the American Dream of the Roaring Twenties. Inspired by and designed in the Venetian Gothic style of the palazzos that ring the Venice canals, this dazzling palatial mansion perfectly captures the splendor and romance of the Italy the Ringlings so loved. To honor its owner, they named it Ca’ d’Zan, “House of John”, in the dialect of their beloved Venice.**
The Ringling Museum’s collection includes more than 28,000 works that represent Western and non-Western art from ancient periods, the European Middle Ages to the nineteenth century, and American art of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. The collection was started by John Ringling, and it continues to grow. In addition to the accessioned art collection, the Museum’s Archives and Art Library contain research collections focusing on John Ringling, the art which is contained in the Museum’s collection, institutional records, and the historic and modern circus.
Before we spend the afternoon at the museum we’ll stop at a local Amish restaurant for a traditional Amish meal. From meat-and-potatoes meals to scratch-made pastries and pies for take-home, DER DUTCHMAN is the place to savor the bounty of genuine Amish kitchen cooking among the faithful farm community of our homesteads. On day one we’ll visit downtown St. Pete where glass whimsy abounds on an impressive scale at the Chihuly Collection. This gallery presents a breathtaking permanent collection of Dale Chihuly, regarded as a pioneer in the studio glass movement. Guests are greeted by a 20-foot sculpture created just for the site, and in fact, the entire building is designed specifically to highlight his glass art. – Just across the street from the Chihuly Collection, the Morean Glass Studio offers the opportunity to watch resident glass artists hard at work in the hot shop (it’s appropriately named!). Learn about the centuries-old craft as they melt the glass in the furnace, blow and shape the molten glass and then carefully cool it in the kiln – all while blasting high-energy music. Before our experiences at the Glass museums we’ll enjoy a luxury lunch at Bay Area favorite Datz’s Deli. When our day is nearly done we’ll check into Holiday Inn St. Petersburg West before departing for an upscale dining cruise with entertainment aboard the Starlight Dinning Yacht.
